Counselling

Talking about things is a good way to deal with bereavement. Counselling is just about talking to someone else about things that are going on in your life. The counsellor will just sit there and listen to what you have to say. They will not make judgements or give advice, letting you make your own decisions. It is about letting you know that your opinion and feelings on matters are important and supporting you as you decide how to deal with any issues.

This is not for everyone, as some people don’t like to talk about personal stuff with strangers. It does take a wee while to build up a level of trust. The best thing about a counsellor is that anything you tell them is confidential which means that no one else will hear about what you have said! In that way, often it’s easier to talk to someone that you don’t know.
