Prayer

Prayer, I can hear some of you ask, how on earth can that help? Isn’t it a bit late to pray? I’m not religious though so why bother. Many people believe in a higher power (often called God) that they pray to, but some people believe that prayer is simply ‘thinking positively’. Whichever you believe, prayer could have the potential to help you.

Recently there has been a lot of research by scientists carried out about the power of prayer and what they have found is that it can help people not only deal with something difficult that’s happened like bereavement but also that it can help ill people become better. Also you don’t have to be religious to pray.

There are countless ways to pray and they don’t have to be complicated. You can pray in a group or on your own. Here are just a few examples:

* Going for a walk
* Being silent
* Lighting a candle for the person who has died
* Being thankful or asking for something in words
* Using religious prayers (e.g. the Our Father)
* Reading a poem that means something to you and reflecting on it
* Looking at pictures of the person you have lost and thinking about them
