Relaxation

This is something that we all need but it can be very hard to relax after someone close to you has died. There are two types of relaxation – passive and active. Passive relaxation is something like sitting in front of the TV watching your favourite programme while active relaxation can be anything from meditating to exercise. As there are countless ways to relax, it is about finding the way that suits you best.

By taking time to relax we provide our brains with a chance to switch off from the stress and tension experienced in bereavement. Our brains need this time as it gives them a chance to process what has happened. It also gives you a break from the constant thinking about what has just happened. It can be very hard to relax after someone close to you has died but is necessary if we are to get the balance in our lives when dealing with bereavement.
