What Can I Expect At A Sikh Funeral?

Before the service it is usual to go to the family’s house where the body may be on display. The traditional way to dispose of the body is by cremation. While the body is being taken to the crematorium hymns may be sung. Once there prayers may be recited and more hymns sung. The next of kin is usually the person who presses the button to lower the coffin. Sikh scriptures state that emotions should be kept under control and that it is God’s will. Due to this the family may appear detached. Once the service is over it is usual to return to the family’s house where there will be more readings and hymns.
