Writing

Writing can be a great way to help you work through your grief. If you are not much of a person for talking about things that are bothering you, writing is ideal. There are many ways in which writing can help with bereavement.

One way of using writing to help you through grief is by keeping a journal of how you are feeling and your thoughts about what has happened. This way you will be able to read back over your journey through grief.

You could also write a letter to the person who has died telling them all the things you had wished you’d said when they were alive. You can also work through your anger by writing down what is making you angry and exactly how you feel then ripping the paper up afterwards. This can be a good release for anger.

Another way is to write poetry. Have a look at our Words of Comfort section where you can see some of the poems written by people who have experienced bereavement. You could even try writing a short story about what’s happened or use it as a base for a fictional story.
